The Fable of the Fabulist – An Introduction

Hello World!

I was very reluctant to start a blog. Embarrassment, I thought, would be the unavoidable outcome of blogging. I was not afraid of others humiliating me, but instead feeling ashamed of my own works. Later on probably not too far from today I’ll re-read this post and feel embarrassed of my writing, ideas, my logic and philosophy. I guess I could describe it as a phenomenon of self-patronizing, weird. I’ve always shied away from making public my faults, probably because I hate making public my emotions-even to myself. Emotions no matter how interesting don’t make much sense to me and I intend to do something about it. Logic is neat, that always makes sense to me, so I try to adhere to it and this is why I haven’t blogged until now. It’s not logical to knowingly create a blog knowing I would ridicule myself. I wanted to start a blog, but it didn’t make much sense to. Since you’re reading this now, something has changed; I’ve decided to follow a new direction. My aim is simple and probably not too fascinating. What makes this unique, though, is not what but-- how and why. My goal is to become a Storyteller, a fabulist.

“ My goal is to become a Storyteller, a fabulist.”

How?

Storytelling and fables have been around since the birth of communication. Without doubt a communication is the tool of a storyteller. As means of communication expand, storytelling and fables evolve. We can communicate stories through written language, visual art, language and music. As commutation advances, the tools for telling stories become more powerful. We happen to be living in a generation of information; commutation is growing and thriving on a global scale. The tools of Storytelling have flourished into a well of untapped power. One of these, and my main focus, is Digital Media and Interactive Stories.

Why?

A story can be the direct manipulation of a very peculiar system. This system is one I hope to explore and understand; it is the system of human emotion. Learning how machinate any system is a great way of coming to understand it; I am ignorant of human emotion and it is the main reason why I want to master the art of storytelling. Human experience is the probably common ground of emotion, experience brings about emotion. The reason I am no longer worried about the phenomenon of self-patronizing is that well, the object of this is to take a sample of or a picture of my experience. My natural artistic reference is personal experience and the emotions they bring.

The purpose of this blog is to record my journey as I explore human experience, emotions and use this to become a new type of Fabulist.
